What comes to mind when you think of the holiday season? Gifts, the scent of oranges, decorated trees, festive desserts, and endless lights—twinkling on streets, fireworks, sparklers... But how about a drone show?
Where did the trend for Christmas & New Year drone displays come from?
Holiday 2026 is moving from one-night fireworks to season-long storytelling. Drone shows bring depth, precision, and camera-ready beauty—now often layered with pyro for cinematic impact. From gentle “snow corridors” to midnight crown moments, light becomes the city’s shared language.
Drone light shows have rapidly gained popularity worldwide, making it almost unimaginable to celebrate Christmas or New Year’s Eve without this medium. Cities like Sydney, Dubai, London, and Shanghai were among the first to recognize drone displays as a fresh alternative or an addition to traditional fireworks. In fact, Shanghai held one of the first large-scale New Year’s Eve drone shows in 2018, setting the stage for a new trend in festive celebrations.
Each year, technology advanced, and so did the creative possibilities for show designers, who could bring more ambitious ideas to life. In the sections below, we’ll explore some of the most exciting ways drones can elevate the magic of the holiday season, making celebrations even more memorable, dazzling, and unique.
A New Year drone display will be the highlight of your celebration
Cyberdrone did it too with New Year drone shows across the globe
One of our recent New Year’s Eve projects took place in Abu Dhabi, where 300 drones illuminated the sky above Al Maryah Island in a perfectly timed countdown to 2025. As the clock struck midnight, the air came alive with synchronized movement: drones, lasers, and fireworks merged into one continuous performance. An eagle spread its wings, the UAE flag shimmered in midair, a mosque and airplane appeared in light, and the words Happy New Year closed the show with quiet power. With Cyberdrone, every light in the sky carried purpose: to celebrate, to connect, and to mark the arrival of a new year in a way that felt both modern and meaningful.
Another New Year’s Eve highlight for us unfolded far from the Middle East—in Australia.Over the holiday season, we brought a month-long series of performances to Adventure Park Geelong in Victoria.
Running from December through January, the shows became the heart of the park’s festive season, an experience families planned their visits around. Each night, hundreds of drones turned the sky into a playground of light, motion, and celebration. The format allowed us to reach more visitors, keep the magic alive across weeks, and give returning guests a reason to look up again and again. The grand finale on New Year’s Eve featured 500 drones, closing the series with a breathtaking show that combined scale, rhythm, and pure emotion—the perfect way to greet 2025.
From Abu Dhabi to Geelong, our New Year projects shared the same essence: light as celebration and technology as the language of joy.
And though it’s been a while, one project we still look back on with real fondness is our New Year collaboration in Goa, India. Partnering with Johnnie Walker, we turned the sky into a luminous toast to new beginnings. The Scotch whisky brand, known worldwide for its timeless style and forward spirit, wished the people of Goa a radiant start to 2022 with a show that blended storytelling, brand identity, and pure visual magic.
It’s been a few years, but this one still stands out, proof that when technology and creativity align, the memory stays bright.
How can we use a Christmas & New Year drone show for the upcoming 2026?
Truth be told, we have endless ideas for holiday drone shows—and we’re ready to come up with even more if you let us. And remember, the “holiday season” isn’t just one night: around the world it spans Christmas (Dec 24–25), New Year’s Eve/Day (Dec 31–Jan 1), Orthodox Christmas (Jan 7) and Old New Year (mid-Jan), Epiphany/Three Kings’ Day / Día de Reyes (Jan 6), Kwanzaa (Dec 26–Jan 1), Las Posadas (mid-Dec), Hogmanay (Scotland), and then rolls into Lunar New Year celebrations such as Tết and Seollal. Plenty of moments to light up the sky—each with its own story, symbols, and style.
This period is also prime time for brand collaborations and product reveals: audiences are off work, in a great mood, and generous with their attention. That’s why holiday drone shows pair beautifully with co-branded chapters, retail and outlet activations, destination campaigns, countdown sponsorships, QR-driven offers, and broadcast/social cut-downs that amplify reach.
Below we’ll share classic concepts with a fresh twist, and we’ll also show how to turn these festive moments into smart brand touchpoints. So let’s get started!
3D countdown & celebration
Imagine a scene set against the backdrop of a city’s iconic clock tower or New Year’s countdown clock. As the crowd gathers in anticipation, drones begin forming a giant 3D digital clock in the sky. Starting with the current hour, they move minute-by-minute, syncing up with the real city clock. As the minutes tick down, the formation grows more intense, with drones subtly shifting colors or pulsing in rhythm with the seconds. In the final minute, drones create a dynamic, second-by-second countdown, adding suspense with each number—“10… 9… 8…”
Each second, they reconfigure slightly, building excitement as they “count down” with glowing precision. Then, as the clock strikes midnight, the drones burst outward from the countdown formation, lighting up into a breathtaking explosion of shapes, stars, and patterns, echoing the look of traditional fireworks. They form vibrant spirals, dazzling stars, and multi-layered bursts—all synchronized to festive music. Instead of dissipating like real fireworks, the drones shift seamlessly into new patterns, creating a mesmerizing spectacle that’s both eco-friendly and unforgettable, symbolizing the start of the New Year.
Floating Christmas tree and ornaments
Picture a cold winter evening, with a crowd gathered below in awe as a 3D Christmas tree begins to materialize high in the night sky. Slowly, row by row, lines of drones light up to create each branch, stacking upward in a perfectly layered shape. The drones at the “tips” of the branches glow in warm colors, simulating lights and ornaments. Each “branch” pulses gently, giving the effect of twinkling lights that seem to shimmer like festive holiday decorations.
But the story doesn’t end with the tree. Surrounding it, dazzling Christmas ornaments come to life: floating spheres, shimmering snowflakes, and glowing baubles that orbit the main figure like cosmic decorations. Each ornament spins softly or changes color, reflecting the joyful motion and sparkle of the holidays.
Christmas ornaments can hang from the sky, glowing like part of a giant tree of light
As the tree takes form, drones at the “base” start to shift in shades of green, while those along the branches add bursts of red, gold, and silver, capturing the classic Christmas palette. Midway through, drones form animated garlands and ribbon-like trails wrapping around the tree, making it appear even more lifelike.
Finally, as the last layer reaches the top, a shining drone star appears, glowing brighter than the rest and casting a radiant, festive glow over the entire “tree.” The star pulses slowly, illuminating the entire display and adding a magical touch. Then, in a final moment of animation, the tree and ornaments “sparkle” together in a synchronized flash of lights before gracefully dissolving back into the night.
And remember — drones can interact with the surroundings, “decorating” architectural landmarks like a Christmas tree or illuminating real evergreens, creating a festive scene that feels both magical and uniquely alive.
Twinkling snowflakes & snowfall
A winter park or a city street can be transformed into a holiday wonderland, where glowing snowflakes drift gently through the air—each one created by a fleet of synchronized drones. As if caught in a magical snowfall, these illuminated formations hover and sparkle, lighting up the night and creating a peaceful, immersive display.
As each drone descends, it brings the effect of a soft, colorful snowfall to the ground. With gentle, rhythmic movements, the drones mimic the graceful descent of snow, scattering across the landscape in hues of blue, white, and silver. The grand finale arrives as the drones descend, forming a radiant pattern that captures winter’s essence. It’s a captivating installation, inviting guests to experience a "snowfall" that glows with holiday warmth, blending the festive spirit with the enchanting allure of winter. In other words, even the landing itself can become an immersive part of the spectacle.
Holiday characters come to life
Bring the magic of the season to the skies with an enchanting drone display featuring iconic holiday figures like Santa, his sleigh, reindeer, or a cheerful snowman. Imagine a sequence of formations where Santa’s sleigh “flies” over the crowd, his reindeer “dash” through the night, or a joyful snowman waves to the audience from above. Each formation builds on the story, captivating kids and adults alike with animated scenes that feel straight out of a holiday movie.
Beyond being a beautiful show, these holiday characters can also serve as eye-catching promotional elements for your brand, store, or event. They could be synchronized with special announcements or countdowns to upcoming holiday sales, creating an unforgettable combination of seasonal storytelling and effective advertising. This unique blend of entertainment and promotion will capture the attention of audiences, leaving them in awe and excited to engage with your brand as part of their holiday experience.
Combining light displays with real objects adds immersive magic
Adding a regional touch can make the display even more special. By incorporating local or cultural symbols—like the upcoming zodiac animal for the Lunar New Year, or themes tied to local traditions—the show becomes a unique celebration of both the holiday season and regional pride. This way, each display feels truly one-of-a-kind, resonating with audiences and creating an unforgettable holiday atmosphere.
Festive messages
It's a straightforward yet stunning way to use drone shows at holiday events. Drones could display greetings like "Happy New Year" or "Merry Christmas" in multiple languages, capturing the holiday's universal spirit. The words can light up the sky, shifting colors and shimmering for an extra festive touch. Messages could be even more creative, like wishes for the audience in the coming year, holiday-inspired associations, or even lyrics of a seasonal song in sync with the music, adding a unique and personal touch to the celebration.
This idea weaves together tradition, faith, and modern technology in a truly unique way. Imagine a night sky where drones form a ‘Bethlehem star’ leading the way, followed by symbols from the nativity like angels, a manger, or wise men. Through light and motion, drones could bring the Christmas story to life, blending the past, present, and future into one stunning display.
Festive messages can shine in any language
Gift box unwrapping
This could be a memorable way to open or close a Christmas drone show, for example. Imagine a giant, glowing present in the sky, complete with a sparkling bow. As the display unfolds, the “box” opens to reveal festive symbols like stars, hearts, or fireworks, embodying the joy and wonder of the season. It could also reveal holiday characters, as mentioned earlier, or even a QR code leading to your brand's page or event, adding an interactive twist to this stunning light display.
Interaction with environment
A city landmark, like a historic building or a prominent urban structure, can be transformed into a part of the holiday light show. Drones could “dress” the building in seasonal lights, aligning perfectly along its façade to create dynamic designs that wrap around its shape. Each architectural feature—whether archways, columns, or domes—could come alive as drones trace its contours with dazzling light, turning the entire structure into a radiant piece of art.
Christian narratives intertwined with architectural interaction
A dynamic string of lights that can move from one object to another or remain stationary, decorating, for example, a bridge along its entire length.
Co-branded “Holiday Chapters in the Sky”
Turn December into a mini-series. Across several nights, each episode carries a partner brand’s theme—subtle product silhouettes, color palettes, or story beats—while the overall arc builds toward New Year’s Eve. Drones unveil nightly “gifts” (icons, limited-time QR offers, destination tags), then morph into a shared signature frame that ties all partners together.
On the 31st, the finale merges motifs from every chapter—logo constellation > message > city shout-out—delivering both a feel-good moment and measurable results (footfall lift, QR scans, UGC volume). Perfect for outlet villages, malls, airports, and waterfronts with heavy holiday traffic.
Pyro drones as an extra
When it comes to creating a truly unforgettable New Year’s celebration, pyro drones add an extra layer of excitement and visual grandeur. Unlike traditional fireworks, pyro drones offer controlled bursts of light that can be timed perfectly with the rhythm of the music, forming intricate patterns in the sky.
Into the New Year with a stunning visual experience
One of the unique aspects of pyro drones is their ability to create interactive, layered shows. They can alternate between animations and pyrotechnics, like forming a glowing, digital “2026” in the sky before erupting into a shower of colors. And with the precision of modern drone technology, each burst can be designed to complement the previous one, creating a show that’s as intricate as it is breathtaking.
Why New Year is the perfect moment for a drone show
The holiday season is a rare mix of crowds, mood, and attention. People are out in the streets, visiting malls and festive markets, gathering in squares, and scrolling social media more than usual. They’re relaxed, ready to be entertained, and willing to spend: on gifts, travel, dining, and memorable experiences. For cities, brands, and event organizers, this creates a perfect stage for a striking light story in the sky.
1. Maximum audience reach
Christmas and New Year’s Eve draw some of the biggest live audiences of the year. Families, tourists, and locals gather in public spaces; restaurants, hotels, and shopping areas see record footfall. A drone show turns these natural gatherings into a single shared spectacle that thousands watch in real time and millions more experience later through photos and videos.
Hundreds of people will step outside to watch your New Year drone show light up the night sky
2. Social media amplification
Holiday content is highly shareable. Drone shows generate viral images and videos: 3D trees, countdown clocks, and glowing “Happy New Year” messages instantly fill Instagram, TikTok, and news feeds. A brand or city behind the show gets organic reach far beyond the event night.
3. Prime time for brands
Shoppers are in a buying mindset; travel and retail campaigns peak. Drone shows can weave logos, QR codes, or subtle product references into festive narratives, without feeling like ads. Countdown sponsorships, outlet or mall activations, and destination marketing campaigns gain instant visibility and a premium, innovative feel.
4. Perfect for corporate celebrations
Year-end parties and company milestones become unforgettable when the night sky becomes part of the program. A tailored drone show can highlight achievements, reveal a new product, or display the company logo at the countdown moment—a powerful way to thank teams and impress partners.
5. Memorable private events
High-profile weddings, luxury villa parties, or VIP gatherings often seek something beyond fireworks. Drone shows are quieter, cleaner, and fully customizable: from initials in the sky to themed 3D figures that reflect the host’s story.
6. City and community pride
Municipalities can turn traditional fireworks budgets into multi-night experiences: sustainable, safe, and visually sophisticated. Drones can tell the city’s story, honor local culture, or feature symbols that resonate with residents — while keeping air and streets cleaner than fireworks would.
7. Sustainable, safe, future-ready
Unlike fireworks, drones don’t leave smoke or debris, and they can fly multiple nights with the same hardware. For cities aiming for greener celebrations or for venues with noise restrictions, drone shows offer a modern alternative.
Wrapping up
Let’s end with what matters: a sky story that lands clearly and lingers. Share venue, dates, and the feeling you want to leave behind and we’ll turn them into a tailored drone narrative: crisp figures, purposeful pacing, memorable hero frames, and a smooth close that carries the crowd out still smiling. Ready when you are, tell us your wishes and we’ll lift them into the sky.
