Kicking off the Eurovision Song Contest 2026 in Vienna with the drone show from Cyberdrone was a brilliant experience from start to finish. The collaboration between our teams was fantastic, and the outcome—3,000 glowing drones dancing above Schönbrunn Palace in Austria’s largest drone show ever as an opening act—was nothing short of magical. An absolutely spectacular opening that set the perfect tone for the weeks ahead.

Why
Cyberdrone?

Drone shows in Portugal are more than entertainment — they are a language of light that adapts to any industry. They energize music festivals and sports events, create unforgettable atmospheres at weddings, and give brands a spectacular way to launch products or celebrate milestones. With each performance, the night sky becomes a shared space where audiences feel closer to the story unfolding above them.

At the same time, a drone show amplifies visibility far beyond the event itself. Videos of these performances spread quickly through social media and news outlets, turning a single night into a viral moment that continues to live online. Whether for culture, commerce, or community, a drone show transforms an occasion into something unforgettable — an experience that entertains, promotes, connects, and inspires.

As a drone show company in Portugal, we design, engineer, and program our drones in-house, which gives us creative freedom to build shows that go beyond simple visuals. From sporting events and cultural festivals to luxury weddings and product launches, we work side by side with organizers to craft sky experiences that reflect the spirit of each occasion.

With operations established in Europe, we ensure smooth logistics, regulatory compliance, and quick deployment across the country. Whether it is a major celebration in Lisbon, a seaside festival in the Algarve, or a cultural event in Coimbra, we deliver shows that are safe, precise, and unforgettable.

Our fleet is built for endurance and agility, flying up to 18 minutes with the speed and stability to create fluid transitions and complex figures. Combined with our creative team’s artistic direction, every performance becomes more than entertainment — it becomes a story written above Portugal.

Have a question?
Here are the answers!

Are drone shows noisy?

Drone shows are significantly quieter than fireworks, producing only a soft humming sound. This makes them suitable for urban environments and residential areas.

Are drone shows safe for large public events?

Yes.

Professional drone shows operate under strict safety protocols, including controlled launch zones, geofencing, redundancy systems, and real-time monitoring.

Each show is designed with a defined safety perimeter and emergency procedures to ensure safe operation for both audience and surroundings.

Are there any specific site requirements?

Yes. Every drone show requires a flat, stable, debris-free launch zone with sufficient space for takeoff, landing, and safety perimeters.

If a suitable surface is not available, temporary launch platforms can be installed.

Can drone shows be synchronized with music or live events?

Yes.

Drone shows can be fully synchronized with music, concerts, or live performances using timecode and real-time control systems.

What permits and documents are required to organize a drone show in Portugal?

Putting on a drone light show in Portugal is absolutely possible, but it comes with specific regulatory steps under ANAC (Autoridade Nacional da Aviação Civil) and EU-wide drone rules.

First, the operator must be registered as a UAS operator within the EU. If your company is already registered in another EU country, that registration is valid in Portugal — but if Portugal is the first country of operation, registration must be completed here. In addition, pilots need the appropriate EU drone license (usually A1–A3, sometimes A2 or higher depending on the type of operation).

Because most drone shows involve night flights, large numbers of drones, or flights over people, they cannot be performed under the standard “open category.” Instead, they fall under the Specific category. That means the operator must hold an Operational Authorisation (OAT) or a Light UAS Operator Certificate (LUC). When bringing a certified operation from another EU state, a cross-border notification (CBO) must also be filed with ANAC, including a local risk assessment tailored to the show site.

Airspace is another critical step. NAV Portugal (the national air navigation service provider) manages restricted and controlled zones. Temporary airspace approvals are usually required for urban or coastal venues, especially near airports.

Beyond aviation authorities, shows often need local approvals. Municipal councils, tourism boards, cultural heritage bodies, or private landowners may all have a say depending on where the show is staged. If the site is in a protected natural area, approval from ICNF (Instituto da Conservação da Natureza e das Florestas) may be required.

Authorities also require a comprehensive safety plan. This covers crowd management, fallback zones, emergency procedures, and safe landing sites. For public shows, a risk assessment aligned with ANAC’s framework must be submitted.

Night flights are permitted, provided drones carry the correct green flashing light, and operators comply with visual line of sight (VLOS) rules, a maximum altitude of 120 m, and all privacy regulations.

In short, organizing a drone show in Portugal involves EU-level certification, ANAC approvals, airspace coordination, local authority permits, safety documentation, and liability insurance. With proper planning and the right expertise, the process is manageable — but we recommend starting preparations at least one to two months in advance.

How can I book a drone light show in Portugal with Cyberdrone?

Organizing a show with us in Portugal is simple — we take care of the details so you can focus on the event itself.

It begins with a conversation: share your occasion, date, and location, and we’ll advise on how drones can enhance it. From there, our creative team develops concepts tailored to your audience, whether it’s a product launch on the Lisbon waterfront, a wedding in the Algarve, or a cultural festival in Porto.

In parallel, our operations team handles the practical side. We conduct on-site evaluations, review flight safety conditions, and coordinate all permits with ANAC, NAV Portugal, and local municipalities. Every show is coded and animated in-house, ensuring smooth transitions, strong symbolism, and an artistic flow that matches your theme.

On the day of the event, our crew manages setup, flight operations, and crowd safety, delivering a performance that’s precise, secure, and visually unforgettable.
