Cyberdrone brought a fleet of 1,600 drones to Rock in Rio 2026, delivering three distinct drone shows across the festival: Dia da Amazônia with Rock in Rio and AXIA Energia, Música Conecta with Rock in Rio and TIM, and Rave the World for Alok.

Three stories in the sky: From the Amazon to Alok’s Rave the World
The first show took place on September 5, celebrating Dia da Amazônia together with Rock in Rio and AXIA Energia.
Drones filled the sky above Cidade do Rock with aerial formations inspired by the Amazon, bringing one of Brazil’s most powerful symbols into the visual language of the festival.
Two days later, we returned with Música Conecta, created for Rock in Rio and TIM.
This time, the sky became a canvas for the idea of connection through music. The choreography was designed to work across the festival grounds, creating a large-scale aerial experience visible to audiences throughout Cidade do Rock.
Then came Rave the World with Alok.
On September 12, our drones became part of the atmosphere surrounding Alok’s performance, extending the experience beyond the stage and into the sky above Cidade do Rock.
It was a different creative challenge: not simply presenting a standalone drone show, but making aerial choreography feel like a natural part of a live music experience.
Designing drone shows for Rock in Rio
Rock in Rio is not a conventional drone show environment. Cidade do Rock is a massive festival space with multiple stages, installations, brand activations, lighting, giant screens, and audiences experiencing the event from different locations.
That changes the way aerial content has to be designed.
Formations need to remain recognizable at scale. Transitions have to be clear from different viewing points. And every sequence has to work within an environment already filled with music and visual effects.
The goal was not to compete with everything happening below. It was to make the sky part of it.
A 1,600-drone fleet in Rio
For Rock in Rio 2026, Cyberdrone deployed a 1,600-drone fleet to Rio de Janeiro.
Having the fleet on site allowed our team to deliver completely different creative formats throughout the festival — from a visual celebration of the Amazon to a story about music and connection and an aerial integration with Alok’s Rave the World.
Behind every flight was a complete production process: creative development, animation, flight planning, technical preparation, rehearsals, and close coordination with the wider festival production.
At an event of this scale, precision is part of the creative work.
Drone shows for large-scale music festivals
Rock in Rio 2026 also demonstrated how drone shows can work as a flexible creative format for major music festivals.
The same fleet can support completely different concepts across multiple event days — from brand storytelling and environmental themes to artist integrations and live music performances.
Unlike a standalone drone show, a festival production has to fit into a much larger technical and creative ecosystem. Flight windows need to align with the event schedule, aerial choreography has to remain visible across large audience areas, and every performance must be coordinated with the wider production.
For brands and festival organizers, this makes drone shows more than a single visual moment. They can become part of the event’s wider storytelling, changing from one night to another while using the sky as a shared canvas visible across the venue.
At Rock in Rio, that flexibility allowed Cyberdrone to create three distinct experiences within the same festival: a celebration of the Amazon, a story about music and connection, and an aerial integration with Alok’s Rave the World.
When the sky becomes another stage
Rock in Rio has been creating large-scale music experiences since its first edition in Rio de Janeiro in 1985. In 2026, drone technology became another part of the festival’s visual language.
For Cyberdrone, the project demonstrated how differently the same technology can be used within one event.
One show can tell a story about the Amazon. Another can visualize the idea of music connecting people. And another can become part of a live electronic performance in front of a festival crowd. Same sky. Different stories.
That is what makes drone shows such a powerful medium for festivals like Rock in Rio: one aerial platform can become a completely different story every night.
