One year of SAL Saadiyat: a milestone under the stars
To celebrate one year of SAL on Saadiyat Island, we brought 3,000 drones to the shores of Abu Dhabi for a light show that blurred the lines between beach party and immersive art. Set against the sunset, soundtracked by a live DJ set, and powered by thousands of synchronized lights in motion, this was a night where celebration met spectacle.
A Saadiyat drone show like no other
Launched as the Abu Dhabi branch of the iconic SAL beach club (originally based at Burj Al Arab), SAL Saadiyat quickly became a symbol of elegant beachfront living in the capital. With its signature Mediterranean flair, turquoise water views, and effortless blend of music, food, and sun-soaked leisure, the venue redefined laid-back luxury on Saadiyat Island.
So when the anniversary came around, it called for a show.
Hosted at Jumeirah at Saadiyat Island Resort, this drone show marked a first for SAL: a large-scale aerial celebration choreographed entirely in their beachside spirit. As the evening settled in and the sky turned soft shades of pink and gold, 3,000 drones rose above the shore, bringing the energy of the day into a new dimension.
From sea to sky: a marine-themed drone spectacle
That night, the sky above was transformed into a living canvas, where every light told a story, and every shape captured a feeling. Drawing inspiration from the beach club’s signature mood—elegant, effortless, deeply tied to the sea—we created a visual language that felt both familiar and dreamlike.
Marine life appeared as if summoned by memory. Dolphins arched joyfully through the air, their movements light and untamed, like laughter carried by the wind. Sea turtles floated in graceful silence—timeless symbols of peace, wisdom, and connection to nature. They didn’t move fast, and they didn’t need to. Their quiet glide felt like the breath between beats.
Seashells followed—not static symbols, but luminous, rotating orbs that seemed to hum with life. Their spirals glowed gently in the dark, pulsing to the rhythm of the music below. They brought intimacy to the sky—a reminder of beachcombing walks, of beauty discovered rather than built.
Scattered among them were clean, iconic outlines of beach umbrellas and lounge chairs—simple, almost surreal in their precision. Suspended high above the sand, they transformed ordinary objects into visual poetry. These weren’t props; they were a mood board for barefoot luxury. Minimal, modern, and unmistakably SAL.
Anchoring the spectacle was a colossal DJ booth rendered entirely in light. Animated with motion and energy, it didn’t just float—it pulsed. It was the heartbeat of the night, a glowing homage to sound, community, and celebration. It reminded everyone watching that this wasn’t just a drone show, it was a party in full flight.
Each figure was part of a greater rhythm: not a linear sequence, but a choreography of mood and meaning. They rose, shifted, hovered, and dissolved in time with the music, allowing the audience to feel immersed, not just entertained. Some cheered. Some fell silent. Some just stared upward, smiling.
And in that moment, the sea didn’t feel like something you looked out at, it felt like something that had risen to meet you. The sky had become a reflection of the shore. A mirror of atmosphere. A celebration of SAL, not just as a place, but as a way of being: playful, refined, and beautifully free.

Scale matters
There’s a difference between a drone show and a drone spectacle, and that difference often comes down to scale. With 300 drones, you can tell a story. With 3000, you can build a universe.
At this size, forms become more complex, motion more fluid, and transitions more cinematic. You can layer animations, play with perspective, and stretch your artistic vision across the entire sky. For this show, that meant we weren’t limited to singular icons, we could create scenes, emotions, and an uninterrupted flow of imagery that mirrored the sea itself.
Of course, smaller shows can be just as powerful—intimate, poetic, and full of impact. But when you work at the 3000-drone level, you unlock a different kind of magic. One that’s panoramic. One that surrounds you.
